Lecture 01 Intro

In the first lecture we are going to discuss issues around what programmers actually do. Then we are going to look at how we might best go about these things. These issues have little to do with computers as such, but more to do with the nature of problems and human behaviour. If all this sounds a bit vague and meaningless, then never mind. We will also cover issues of abstraction and metadata. So it really sounds like fun. There are links to classroom server for the labs here. You will need these for your first practical session tomorrow.

Great Lecture Today, Some students seemed to think they missed the final Good Joke.

My question is when will we get our booklist, or have we got it already. It can be difficult to tell when the university throw several forests worth of paper at you when you get here.

Of course the situation isn't helped by the student union giving you the same leaflets over and over when you either exit or enter the university campus.

I agree with your thoughts on C# as a programming language, when I realised that the course was going to be using it as a main language I decided to have a go at it.

Only console applcations at this stage, but I was surprised how easy it was to do once you had a basic Hello World example, Many of the c++ conventions seem the same, Possibly the same of java in places but I haven't used java so I wouldn't know.
